On Friday, Oct. 10, our class will compete against other 3rd grade classes (Mrs. Bo, Mrs. Lachi, and Ms. Schaefer) in the 1st WORD WIZZARD competition of the year. There will be several Word Wizzard competitions throughout the year which will test the students’ knowledge in grammar. This week, the focus is on SUBJECT AND PREDICATE. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD PRACTICES EACH NIGHT. Create and write 10 sentences on a sheet of paper and have him/her identify the subject and the predicate for each sentence by underlining the subject once and the predicate twice. Have fun working with your child.
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING: This week’s reading is The Waterfall. The reading strategy for this story is PREDICT AND INFER and the comprehension strategy is CAUSE AND EFFECT.
SPELLING: The spelling pattern this week is long vowel o (oa, ow, oCC).
GRAMMAR: We will continue to review SUBJECT AND PREDICATE.
VOCABULARY: astonished, swift, summoned, bestow, triumphant, ravaged, harsh, endured, mounted, and frail.
WRITING: We will finish the FRIENDLY LETTER and learn how to write a paragraph that explains.
MATH: Students will take EXCEL TEST #4 and CHAPTER 2 TEST.
